Dave Hunter - Bio Dave loves maps, history, driving and discovering unusual stories along the way. Combined with his fondness for writing, this led to Along Interstate-75―a travel book which has quickly become the “must-have” guide for "snowbirds" heading out for the long-distance drive to Florida, each winter. His passion for history paid dividends while writing the I-75 guide. During research, he rediscovered two little known Civil War battle sites in North Georgia and noted that the interstate ran right across the middle of the Union and Confederate battle lines. Modern posters of his battlemaps were displayed in Georgia's Welcome Center, during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He also found a forgotten trail blazed in 1775 by Daniel Boone, which crosses the path of the modern interstate in Kentucky. Both of these finds were made possible by Dave's ability to read topographical maps–a skill he developed as a youngster roaming the hills and valleys of England’s South Downs, looking for prehistoric encampments and lost Roman roads. With more than twenty-five years of writing about I-75 road travel, Dave has become the media "go-to" person when producing annual drive-to-Florida content, and has appeared in hundreds of newspaper articles and radio & TV guest appearances. For the past sixteen years, Dave has hosted an all-day entertainment stage at the two-day Snowbird Extravaganza, held in Lakeland, Florida. This annual consumer show attracts over 15,000 U.S. & Canadian snowbirds each day. He is also a regular contributor of I-75 and Florida articles for the CSA News, Canada's official Canadian Snowbird Association. Best drive to Florida map book we have ever used. Have been using Dave Hunters guides for about 15 years. We use them on every Michigan to Florida trip, about every other year. I have a disabled brother that travels with the family every trip. Knowing where accessible rest stops are is a huge help with traveling with family in a wheelchair. And if you want to take a scenic trip off the beaten path, Dave gives you every idea you could need at the tip of your fingers! Young or old, kids to teenagers, this is a must have for your next Along I-75 vacation.This couple takes there time driving 75 so we don't have to. Hats off to your book Mr. and Mrs. Hunter! My family buy a new copy with each update. Invaluable information, thank you!

This book us invaluable for someone driving I-75 to Florida! It lists hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc. at every highway exit from Detroit to the Florida border. A must for snowbirds!

This is my third time purchasing the I-75 book. It is a must if you travel to Florida and back from the northern states.

The book is absolutely the most comprehensive map/guide we have ever used. We travel each year to Florida but this book details each exit with gas stations, restaurants and exits not to take. Super worth the money.

Decent read but you will need to read for beginners but you will need other books to become a good trader

This is my first book on Forex trading, so I have nothing to compare it to. So this review is for the book contents and what I like or hated about it.The book covers the basics as implied by its tittle. Don't expect in-depth analysis or fancy detailed trading strategies. The book is properly paced and not boring -at least if you're interested on learning.The language is clear enough for beginners, but the author makes a big mistake that is consistent throughout the book: tries to explain topics using jargon that is at best latter on explained on the book. So you have to go to the internet and figure out the words or concept we fails to explain earlier as it should be. I must say that while this is a big pitfall as a writer, it's good for you as reader as it forces you to spend several hours (given you have the time) on the internet reading the overwhelming amount of information found there, which helps you to diversify what you are reading on the book.I gave it 3 stars mostly for the lack of figures/graphics that would help to understand the concepts he tries to come across. The quantity of figures is extremely short and makes your imagination soar figuring out how things look like. The author failed to understand than since most interesting concepts about forex trading are closely related with the charts, these are of paramount importance to explain clearly and succinctly. It's a shame the book is so short of graphics coz otherwise would be a great book.At last, it's unbelievable that the author, the editor and however proofread the book (if somebody ever did that) failed to notice the basic arithmetics errors on the examples used to explain EVP.The bottom line: the book is worth it if you're a beginner and feel overwhelm by the information found on the internet.

Good read for an absolute beginner in foreign exchange trading. Peters covers the basics, but strategy isn't really covered in this book very thoroughly.

What Is the Story of Hello Kitty?   On November 23, 2016, Masao Gunji achieved a Guinness World Record. What is his record? The world’s largest Hello Kitty collection!   Gunji, who lives in Japan, has 5,169 Hello Kitty items. He has Hello Kitty plush toys, crystal figures, clocks, watches, and lamps. His collection also includes a bowling pin, a toaster, a coffee maker, a motorcycle helmet, and a ukulele. If something has Hello Kitty on it, then Gunji probably owns it.   After thirty-five years of collecting, the Hello Kitty items fill Gunji’s pink house. Anytime he or his wife see something with Hello Kitty on it, they buy it. Gunji credits his family and neighbors with encouraging him to apply for the world record and helping him count all the Hello Kitty items he owns. People like to stop by and visit his collection, making his home a kind of neighborhood hangout spot. Gunji thinks looking at all of his Hello Kitty things helps them relax.   But why Hello Kitty? What does Gunji love about her so much?   “The reason I like Hello Kitty is because of her expression; for some reason when I’m sad, she looks a bit sad as well, and when I am happy, she looks happy.”   Gunji isn’t the only person who feels this way. The design of Hello Kitty is simple, but it is enough to bring joy to millions. A glimpse of Hello Kitty can make anyone’s day a bit brighter. The motto of Sanrio, the company that introduced Hello Kitty in 1974, is: “small gift, big smile.” And for over forty years, Hello Kitty has brought a smile to so many people.   Some people think Hello Kitty is just a cute little cat. But Hello Kitty is much more than a cartoon character. She has been loved by generations of families, from grandparents and parents to small children. She brings people together. Hello Kitty looks simple. But she is also complicated. And maybe that is why she has remained popular for so long.    Chapter 1: Sanrio      The story of Hello Kitty begins with Shintaro Tsuji, the founder of Sanrio. He was born in 1927 in Yamanashi, Japan. Two moments from his childhood left a lasting impression on him: Once, his teacher asked him to help give out food and clothing to people in the town who had none. He was struck by how happy other people were to receive things that seemed so simple to him. Another time, he gave some of his trading cards to a boy he knew. The boy was delighted, and Tsuji realized that even small gifts can bring great joy. He understood how easy it could be to make someone happy.   Tsuji’s life changed when he was a young teenager and his mother passed away. He drifted into the world of books. He loved poetry and literature, especially the magical world of Greek mythology.   Tsuji went to college and studied chemistry. After graduating, he got a job with the local government. In August 1960, he quit his job and started his own business, the Yamanashi Silk Center.   Tsuji and his employees traveled around Japan, selling silk items from his home state of Yamanashi. In 1962, the company decided to sell rubber beach sandals, too. Many businesses sold these, so Tsuji tried to make his different by putting a small flower on each. The sandals sold well. The company even received orders from outside Japan! Tsuji tried putting strawberry designs on other usually plain products, like wallets and slippers. And these things were also successful. He realized that just by adding a simple decoration to something so ordinary, he could increase sales.   Tsuji hired artists to draw characters to put on his items. He also tried to sell some American items in Japan, such as Barbie dolls and Hallmark cards. Neither was successful, though. The Barbie dolls were too expensive, and the Hallmark cards had American designs that didn’t appeal to Japanese customers.   The failures of these projects taught Tsuji to focus on things that were right for the Japanese market. He thought that the company should sell small gifts that people could give one another to show friendship, not just for special occasions. He didn’t want them to be too inexpensive. But if they cost too much, people might not buy them at all. He finally settled on items that he believed schoolchildren could afford to buy and give to their friends.   Tsuji’s first store was called Shinjuku Gift Gate. It opened in Tokyo, Japan, in 1971.   Tsuji decided the company might need a new name: something easy to say and remember. He thought it should be appealing and yet have a deeper meaning. He remembered how the world’s three earliest great civilizations were established on rivers: Babylon began near the Tigris River, Egypt along the Nile River, and China on the Yellow River. He decided to use the concepts of “three” and “river” for his store’s name. San is the way to spell the Japanese and Chinese word for three using the Western alphabet. Río is the Spanish word for river. In 1973, the company officially changed its name to Sanrio.   Another major change was just around the corner for Sanrio: the introduction of their biggest star.   Chapter 2: Hello, Hello Kitty      Throughout the 1960s, Tsuji had paid well-known cartoonists to use their characters on Sanrio products. But he wanted Sanrio to create its own characters. He wanted to have his own designers.   Tsuji didn’t want Sanrio gifts to be too expensive. He wanted kids to be able to buy them as small treats. That meant he needed designs that would appeal to young people. Tsuji had had success by putting strawberry designs on products. Then he tried cherries—but no one bought those items! He realized it was time to try something new. All children seemed to like animals, so he suggested that his artists draw animal characters. Tsuji knew from talking to kids that their favorite animals were dogs, cats, and bears. But Snoopy, the dog from the Peanuts comic strip, was already very popular in Japan. So was Winnie-the-Pooh, the British bear. That left cats. Tsuji thought a cat might be a successful character.   The Sanrio designers worked hard to create new characters. They drew a bunny and mouse pair named Bunny and Matty. They also created two friends named Patty and Jimmy. They looked fine, but they didn’t become very popular for Sanrio.   Then in 1974, one designer brought Tsuji a new drawing of a character she called Kitty White. Kitty White had a very large head and a small body. She had a yellow nose, two black dots for eyes, and a red bow tilted over her left ear. She wore blue overalls and sat sideways with her face turned toward viewers. There was a small bottle of milk with a straw next to her on one side and a fishbowl with a red fish on her other side.   Tsuji thought the drawing was “just okay” but decided they would use it anyway. He didn’t expect it to be something special.   The drawing of Kitty White appeared on a see-through coin purse in 1975, with “Hello!” printed in red letters above her. Hello was written in English because British words and styles were very popular in Japan at that time. The coin purse cost 240 Japanese yen. That would have been less than one US dollar. It was something kids could easily afford to buy.   The coin purse sold well. Sanrio made more products with Hello Kitty on them. In most of the drawings, she was shown sitting in the same sideways pose, her face turned forward. But in others, she had different items and wore different clothes.   What made Hello Kitty so successful? Of course, she was cute. But there was something else: She was in the right place at the right time.   In the early 1970s, young girls in Japan began to change their handwriting. They started to exaggerate the roundness of the characters they wrote and added little touches to them, such as hearts and flowers. When asked why they liked writing that way, they said they thought it looked “cute.”   Japanese kids, especially middle-school and high-school girls, began to use the word kawaii (say: KUH-why-i) to describe anything cute. She looked like she might need a bit of help. She was like a baby animal. People wanted to take care of her. Businesses were doing well. People had money to spend on extras. Parents gave their children allowances to buy whatever they liked. Grandparents gave kids money on holidays or birthdays. Many Japanese children in the 1970s could easily afford to buy a Hello Kitty item.   Sanrio made more products with Hello Kitty on them: clocks, dolls, and other small toys. Hello Kitty began to wear different clothes, and she sometimes stood and faced fully forward. The new Hello Kitty products sold well. Sanrio doubled its sales in 1975.   Tsuji called the land where all of his characters lived the Strawberry Kingdom. The company began to publish Strawberry News, a magazine about Sanrio characters. Fans learned about new Hello Kitty products, where they could buy them, and how to enter contests. They wrote letters to the magazine about how much they loved Hello Kitty.   A Sanrio tradition also started in 1975. A sales clerk at a Sanrio store was wrapping up a gift for a customer. She wanted to add a little something to the package. She noticed a small Hello Kitty bell on the store Christmas tree and tied it onto the customer’s package. The customer was delighted. The sales clerk began to add small bells to all of their customers’ packages.   Tsuji heard about this and thought it was a wonderful idea. It truly fit in with the company’s “small gift, big smile” belief. He told all Sanrio stores to start adding tiny ornaments—or trinkets—to their customers’ purchases. The tradition still continues today, and Sanrio fans look forward to receiving their small, collectible souvenirs.    In 1976, other companies began to pay Sanrio a fee to put the Hello Kitty character on their products. Perhaps this is a translation from the Italian, as the writing is flat and lifeless. There is a claim in the book that really rattled my cage. When Sabina is living in England, the author remarks that Richard III murdered the princes in the Tower of London only days after he took the throne. Historical scholars in two separate centuries dispute that story. The two sons of Edward IV didn't disappear until after Richard III's death on the battlefield. and their verdict was that it was Richard III's successor, and the Tudor victor in the battle, Henry VII, who likely had the two boys killed because they had a claim to the throne--and again that Richard III couldn't have killed them because he died before they did. Shakespeare's play, Richard III, toed the party line that Richard III was the villain because the Tudors were now the ruling family. Apart from this, the book was not a very entertaining read. Because I hate to give a one star review, I will up it to two stars; but it isn't one I would recommend.

I have read many books about this period in Italy's history and especially books about Florence and the renaissance. This author is new to me and I think the book was well researched and the reader was able to feel what life was like for women during this period but I felt that the action was uneven. The first part of the book dragged a bit and the end of the book moved so quickly that entire years were covered within a few paragraphs. I liked the characters and felt that some of them were developed more fullly than others but, in general, it was a good book.I will read other books by this author as I believe, generally, that she is a good story teller

SABINA: A Novel Set in the Italian RenaissanceI bought this book because of one, the front cover and second, the description of the book. I've never heard of this author and totally blew me away!! It's set in the 1400's Italy and about one woman's life. Totally brilliant writing, the story flowed right through to the end and I didn't want it to end. I've never read such a story that I can't even tell you how many pages are in this book. I didn't care, but WOW!! Sabina goes through so much as one woman, living in a man's world, trying to make it her own world and the one she wants to live. The Italian country side the author describes makes you feel you're there, the homes, Rome, Florence, I cannot say enough about this book!! I found another one by this author and bought it. I really learned so much about what being a woman means in our world today. Those women that did do it their way back then, had balls!! This book is beautiful, tragic, erotic, I can't think of enough words to describe this book!! All I can say is it was one of the most beautiful books I've ever read about one woman. Amazing.....JacqueB

A good story that takes you through the life of the protagonist, Sabina Rossi. We see from an omniscient narrator the personal struggles of women in Italy and England in the 1400's as well as how politics affected life then. While the language is simple making the book an easy read, it was interesting and does pull the reader in to feel the emotions the characters experience.

I cried and laughed throughout reading this novel. I consider this to be a great novel that few have never heard of. I enjoyed following Sabina's life story and getting to know her and her beautiful family and friends.

I absolutely loved reading this book from start to finish. When I'm torn between wanting to read non-stop and trying to slow myself down so I won't finish the book too quickly, it's a clear sign of a wonderful book to me. Now I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, ALLEGRA.

Beautifully written, love Sabina! DeMelo expertly combines Renaissance history and a most uncommon heroine in a fascinating story of courage, determination, love and the power of the human spirit. Can't wait to read the sequel.

Mate begins with the statement that ADD is “…defined by three major features, any two of which suffice for the diagnosis: poor attention skills, deficient impulse control, and hyperactivity.” There is no specific citation here to justify this claim, but assuming it is generally agreed that this is true, what makes up the body of the book are dozens of portrayals of random characteristics which Mate identifies as those attributable to ADD. In what might be considered typical ADD fashion, there is no ordered attempt to associate these characteristics directly with the major features in his original definition, despite the cleverly titled chapters (or maybe because of them.)Nowhere does Mate suggest that a diagnosis of ADD would necessitate a preponderance of these characteristics, or conversely, that taken individually, these characteristics might be diagnosed as some other disorder, or even (God forbid) as a relatively natural response to the stressors of the world we live in. Mate defines these “hallmark” characteristics of ADD in absolutes, rendering many of his conclusions not only inaccurate, but irresponsible. His leaps of logic, and lack of hard evidence or citations (other than general lists at the end of the book) are maddening, and some scientific “evidence” was misrepresented (see other reviews.)I have lived for 30 years with an ADD husband and his daughter, abandoned by her mother before the age of two. Both were diagnosed by psychiatrists (not family practice physicians, as is Mate.) Some of the behaviors which Mate describes are recognizable in one of them, but not the other; some cannot be seen in either; some are issues for both.Mate’s hypothesis that ADD is the result as much of nurture as nature is enlightened, as we now know nature and nurture together are responsible for all the positive and difficult aspects of our physical and emotional health. Though we may be born with a proclivity for a disease or disorder, we do not have to open those genetic envelopes. So I applaud Mate for making this point, and taking the inevitability out of the ADD equation.But he severely undermines any positive take-away on this score by focusing on the role of early childhood trauma in bringing about ADD behaviors, and placing the responsibility solely on the shoulders of mothers. This blame is not only unhelpful, but downright detrimental to ADD mothers everywhere who often feel overwhelmed and abandoned in the face of it. The weight of this finger-pointing is countered with almost NO help at all, as he offers nothing more than the same suggestions which may be found in any of the hundreds of pop-psych magazine articles that are published in any given month.I’d suggest skipping this book and reading Hallowell or Thomas E. Brown instead. IMHO This book belongs in the ever-growing category of self-help books written by doctors - whom we are wont to trust - out to make a name for themselves from insufficiently substantiated theories. Just the sorts of distractions that render us “Scattered.”

I don't know if I'm convinced that his theory of the source of ADD is the only source - but he addresses feelings I have so precisely that it must be significant, and he addresses them with the subtlety and real understanding only an intelligent and sensitive fellow sufferer who has grappled with the same problems could. One who writes well too - it's an entertaining and often a moving read.If you or your child suffers (or you suspect suffers) from ADD, read this. It opens up avenues of growth and healing for those with ADD that no one else has - and they could be recommended to many human beings with positive results, but could be life changing to those with ADD.

As a mental health clinician who works in a high school with teenagers, this book has been so helpful in putting a lot of the typical adhd behaviors that we see into a larger context. This was my first Dr. Mate read, and I've since become a big fan of his approach to early traumatic environments and how that affects the person. ADHD is way more than a "brain" issue, and medication is only a sometimes helpful band-aid to a larger, deeper problem. This book is easy to read and gives great tips to parents and schools working with both children and adults who suffer from this disorder.

I read this because it was suggested by my psychiatrist at the VA. My psychiatrist was the person who I was comfortable to speak with and it pains me so to finish this book after 2 years. I am planning to visit him and thank him for this suggestion as it was a great read.I wish I would’ve read it sooner and had more things to talk about but he had another better job lined up for him. There is no greater lesson in life than regret and the cliche of not going to live my life without any regrets is truly false, because without this pain in my heart I would not have appreciated this book and why he suggested in the first place. I wish I don’t have any regrets but at the same time I have this lesson learned and I will not forsaken this feeling.

Anyone who has ADD or has a family member/child with ADD needs to read this. It completely changes everything you believed and makes total sense. I wish I had read this when my son was young so I could have implemented some of the suggestions. However, even though he is now 20, there are still many things you can change in your interactions and when advising.

I had high expectations for this book but I was disappointed. I listened to Gabor mate on the tim ferris podcast and was impressed. If you're buying this book so it can help you with solutions for ADD don't buy the book. It went into great depth about the things people with ADD struggle with and family problems that can lead to ADD. Doesn't go into depth about solutions

Wow. This is a life-changing book. There is power in the fact that Gabor Mate uses his personal experience to illuminate the world of the ADD child (and adult). More than that, he offers so much insight into the personality of the ADD person, and such great guidance on how parents can help, and especially as to how an adult can 'parent' their own ADD tendencies. If you know an ADD person, this will totally change your attitude towards them. If you yourself have undiagnosed ADD, this book can help you understand yourself in a deeper and more loving way.

Perhaps the best book I've read on ADHD, and really helped me to understand my spouse so much more. It's helped me understand why he does some of what he does, and thus it has dissipated my anger with his condition and helped me understand better how to help him. This book was therapeutic to discuss with a friend who's wife was a later in life diagnosis as well. I just keep going back to it, especially the bits about time management.

I purchased this book to brush up on my neuroanatomy. However, not even 4 pages into the book and I'm noticing many of the structures are flat out labeled wrong or the line pointing to the structure just ends up somewhere else. I ended up using google to correctly identify the structures. As an anatomy book, accuracy is everything. I'm giving it two stars because I like the clear lines delineating the structures but I DO NOT recommend this to anyone trying to learn neuroanatomy.

Like another reviewer, I've noticed several critical errors. In most cases the green lines are pointing to the wrong area or point to nothing of interest. I am a cognitive neuroscience professor who required this book for my students to help them learn neuroanatomy and these errors are a hindrance.In the image I posted, 5 is labeled as precentral sulcus, but its in front of the bold line which is the precentral sulcus, 6 labeled central sulcus, but same issue as 5, 7 is the central sulcus but its label postcentral gyrus.

This is a good review of basic human brain information, upper division undergrad level. There are more questions than coloring which is good for review. Its pages are spiral bound with the cover that folds over the binding which I liked. It does not have much clinical information.

Excellent book..& great way to learn &/or review the anatomy & functions & theory of the brain...The "coloring" is not childs play..It is sophiscated teaching platform presenting many facts & information..The pages are clear & the exercises make you think or look up the workbook like fill-in-the-blanks, & labeling anatomy..I really like that the answers are keyed in at the bottom in tiny print.. this allows you to really "think -it -out" before you slip a sneak peek on the answer key.. A VERY WELL put together publication for the inquisitive, ADVANCED student of any age including med. students & those beginning courses in neuro-anatomy...although a child under 10 years of age my need some help with the technical aspects -I would not hesitate to give this book to a interested young person. Recommend for all with an interest in the Brain.

Excellent resource for neuroanatomy review.

Very helpful in my physical therapy school neuroscience class!
