The illustrated version is the one to get. I had the non illustrated one for years and loved it, but this illustrated version hits it out of the park. You will have a very deep understanding of the evolution of organizations, and you will have fun getting there.

The original book facilitated a monumental shift in my understanding of work and organizations. It is a book of hope that doesn't just show "what could be", but it gives some great ideas and examples of how to build organizations for a higher purpose.This illustrated edition (which I ordered as soon as I learned about it!) is a fantastic addition to the original. It is not just the original with a few pictures thrown in, it is a completely new book where the words and the pictures flow seemlessly together to give even those who have read the original a new perspective and fresh insight.I find that talking about evolutionary organizations is met with skepticism, but I intend to buy more copies of this book to provide other people with a more accessible introduction into a subject that I believe has so much promise.

I’m sensing and experiencing the brokenness of management practices and typical pyramid structures for many years. This is the first time when someone clearly gives name and shape to the problems I was fighting with. Not only that but he actually already have practical way towards the solution.- I like the fact this book is simple and readable, despite the complexity of thoughts it’s working with.- I would recommend the book to everybody, who is interested in a human-centered approach to business and management.- I honestly believe that some of the ideas presented in the book, are a cornerstone of the future of work. Those who start practicing those principles now, are getting ready for the revolution which is inevitably coming and will have a true advantage in the increasingly complex world which we’re quickly diving in to as a globalized society.- #mustread for all the millennials who have the intuition that something is wrong with their life/work balance :-)

This is an excellent book on new organizations for the 21st century. The author uniquely applies self organizing principles with Ken Wilber's philosophy of development to promote "teal organizations" for today's services and businesses. Most important is his research about examples that work. His illustrations really help readers "see" what he means. The content and visuals make this an easy and must read for leaders and advocates of good practice. Enjoy!!

Certainly one of the more engaging, easy to read and thought-provoking leadership/management books in years. The illustrations are helpful but I didn't find them actually particularly compelling. The ease of the language, accessibility of the ideas and the brevity yet rich content make this book an essential.

I read dozens of books a year and this one got me so jazzed for my business and my clients. If you're in management or into Integral Theory / Spiral Dynamics this is a worthy read.

I read the original Reinventing Organizations and was immediately hooked by the idea of organic/self-managing organizations/systems.This illustrated guide distills the theories and lessons from that book and presents them in an easy-to-digest format. I am buying copies for many of my peers as we look to advance our organization into a more effective model.

The original book is very dense. This is a great introduction and a useful way to share the ideas with others.

This is a book to read when you are getting ready to meet with an estate planning attorney to plan your estate for the first time. Those looking for complex strategies should look elsewhere.

Easy read, and full of information. Unfortunately it doesn't discuss taxes, which I thought it would. But from a planning perspective I'm very glad I read it and feel that I learned a lot.

This book was helpful to me. It was well written and easy to understand. I definitely learned a few things, however, I think it could have been more comprehensive. For example, it discussed revocable living trusts, but did not even mention that there are irrevocable living trusts as well. I will need to purchase and read additional books before hiring an attorney for my estate planning.

Book gives a good overview of estates without being verbose. If you’re looking for details and depth to the subject, this is not what you want.

Very helpful, very practical guide to an important subject. I learned a lot from this book. It is reader-friendly, which cannot be said of other books I've read on the same subject.

This book seems to cover everything at a basic level. I did learn that my dad and I had made an error in adding me to his bank account.

Well written and informative, with good examples to illustrate points. Short and to the point but definitely just a starter into the world of estate planning.

This book preps you with the basics on estate planning. Not much depth but an easy quick read to get started.

A journey of 46,000 miles was just two weeks into the ride when the world as we knew it changed with the events of September 11th. The plans for his epic adventure found Al Humphreys in Istanbul with decisions to make. I love and subscribe in my own adventures to something Alastair said, “Don’t make big decisions when, tired, lonely, hungry, frightened, ill, or at night.” He turned right and continued his ride into Africa without any prior planning or knowledge of what lie ahead. This story Moods of Future Joys and the second part, Thunder & Sunshine tell a vivid and engaging tale of the life and times in our world. Alastair Humphreys will quickly become one of your favorite authors. Take an armchair adventure and enjoy his book Moods of Future Joys.

Alistairs books get better. His first effort was decent when he wasn't describing how many times he was crying, in tears or about to cry. Good grief. I'm surprised he ever left his bedroom! After finished crying, his adventure begins in Africa where he took a route that would be almost impossible today - Syria, Lebanon, Sudan and south to South Africa. This non-traditional route makes the book worth reading in itself. He skims over Europe so if you want Europe you'll have to look elsewhere. Not a great adventure book, but enough insights, intrigues and suspense to make it a good read.

I fell in love with Alastair Humphreys because of his book "Micro Adventures" it is a fun book about tiny adventures. I think this book "Moods of Future Joys" about a giant adventure gives him street cred. OK this book feels fairly simple, a bold untrained kid decides to ride his bike around the world and it take 4 years or something crazy like that. I like hearing his ups, his downs, the tiny details about stuff in his head and one the road. "Moods Of Future Joys" sits on the shelf next to one of my favorite books of all time "Dove" by Robin Lee Graham, both classic adventure books by young people. Also after you read this book you can follow Alastair on social media, He is full of fun challenges and is such a inspirational guy to listen to.

I first came across Alastair Humphreys on Instagram, and looked through several of his posts about adventuring. At the time I was in Morocco backpacking. I dug down further to discover that he had spent over four years cycling around the world. I didn’t think this was possible at the time, it was a crazy concept to me. I bought the first part of his book immediately and finished it in two days, proceeding to buy the second. What an extrordinary tale! It made me think about cycling around the world myself at the time. And five months later I have decided to do just that! Thank you Alastair for being such an inspiration

After reading Alastair's books online a few years back, it originally inspired me to set off on a bicycle journey of my own across the United States. Before this, I had no bicycle touring experience whatsover, only daily commutes. Afterwords, I wrote a book about my travels in the book "Travel By Two Wheels."If a book can inspire someone to set off and do something, it is certainly worth the read! I now have bought both of his books off Amazon and will continue to re-read them. It's nice to know that some people are still willing to take a leap of faith and set off on a journey like this that does not involve fancy hotels and airplane tickets. Alastair takes each little bit pedal stroke by stroke, one swift revolution at a time.The characters he meets in both of his books are incredible to say the least and the way in which he writes makes it a real page-turner. Support Alastair by purchasing this book!

The first in a two part series that describes Al Humphreys bicycle ride around the world. It took him four years, he did not have a corporate sponsor. His openness and enthusiasm shine through - as well as his vulnerability. I couldn't put this book down! He chronicles his many adventures on his blog. Just an amazing story!

I picked this up as I have recently "reintroduced" myself to bicycling at the age of 63. This is not only a first rate travelogue, but a story of achievement by a young man. We can all learn a lot from Al. This was great, and now I'm onto his second book. Read and enjoy.

Great story of an adventure... was less about the activity and more about the people he met and the places he came to know along the way. Made me laugh out loud a few times too!

This is a useful guide for those just starting out. It doesn't go too into depth on any one thing so I would advise some extra research if you're new to this craft but gives good basic info and has a lot of neat, easy methods for creating pretty candles.

A good read for those who like DIY and hobbies.

Great book, full of easy to read and follow information. After trying g to make candle several times, finally realized what I was doing wrong.

This is an engaging read, up to a point. What struck me was the lack of books that I recollect from my childhood. Some weren't politically correct, but memorable just the same. One I recollect, for example, was about a kid named Sambo. As a child, I had no idea that it was a stereotype, but I did love the story of the tigers running around so fast they turned into butter (or something) that made for good pancakes.Okay, my point is, this book of celebrities recollecting their influence stemming from reading is a nice reminder of the value derived from that one skill that we, as parents, should endeavor at all costs to equip children with.There are skills learned by children that, it is easy to see, set those children free:A- First stepsB - Speaking intelligible wordsC - Reading. And it is reading, I submit, that sets each child on a wonderful journey. Many of them go on to writing, either creatively, or technically, or, at least, attention-grabbing memos (or book reviews) that instill motivation in others.Now, on with a few other observations...BLUSH FACTOR: There are a few mild profanities, but nothing that will cause undue embarrassment if read to children or to most prayer groups. The words that do appear might be skipped over easily enough if you desire.EXCERPT:Sorry, I don't post excerpts for these types of books, since there are so many different people.MISGIVINGS: I wish somebody had mentioned at least one of the four books that so influenced me: Old Yeller; Shane; Three Against the Widlerness or Go North Young Man, but, alas, I guess I'm more unusual in my taste for adventure than I presumed!BOTTOM LINEDespite the missing favorites, the mention of "Pinnochio" by Carlo Collodi definitely took me back to my childhood. Hands down the best book I've read like this. A wide variety of people discussed how books changed their lives, but many interpret the question quite independently. The subjects of this book are not limited to discussing one book so readers are often privy to the thought process that led people to determine the book that most influenced them. I found many books I wanted to read by reading this book.

The author of The Books That Changed My Life believes that ‘a house that holds books on its shelves and holds reading in high esteem … is a house more likely to raise curious, bright, contended, and responsible individuals‘.It is from this kind of background that Bethanne Patrick, the author, ventured into her project - a survey to interview a select group of 100 people including professional writers, musicians, CEOs, politicians, actors, journalists and even chefs. All from different religions, different education and with various political affiliations .Although Ms. Patrick tried to concentrate on selecting a mixed group, the fact is that she ended up with a strong bias toward women and a similar bias toward writers rather than readers. Also, with her initial choice of professionals and prominent people she automatically excluded a huge sector of middle class readers to whom this type of survey would be of interest. In addition, most of the books referred to in the survey are fiction; non-fiction is hardly recognized or discussed by the author. The end result is that she came up with 100 prominent people well versed in various aspects of literature.The basic question in the survey was always the same: What book or books changed your life. What is interesting is that most of the respondents seemed to veer away from a direct answer and move to an autobiographical summary of their reading and writing history. Some stressed that there could not be a book that would change one’s life, not even several books. After all, one’s personality is complex with several dimensions that are continuously in a state of change. Others mentioned few books that they once admired but noted that even those changed with age. The reader soon realizes that, perhaps contrary to the author's expectations, agreement on one book that changes one’s life is unrealistic. No wonder so few of the 100 participants came up with a clear recommendation.What can we then advise about this book? It seems obvious from readers' responses that many were dismayed: While they expected a list of special, outstanding books that might improve their lives, they were served with a lengthy 100 comments and reviews from writers they barely heard of before. I am reading this book one author at a time! So very inspiring. I have also been creating a list of all the books I need to read! So many wonderful books... so little time!!

What a great idea for a book! Not one that you sit down and read through, but ideal to dip into when you only have a short amount of time. I have been reminded of several of my old favorites and added quite a list of new ones to check out because of some of the essays - not to mention met some fascinating new people among the contributors. Especially enjoyed the review by Eric Idle.

I took my time with this book, reading one entry per day, in order to savor it. Thoroughly enjoyed it. As a writer myself, I appreciated garnering tidbits about what people love about the books they read. As a reader, I loved getting ideas of what books I might enjoy. And I made a fun competition of seeing if my own favorites made it to the list!

The value of this book lies not so much in the prestige of the people recommending books. I have to be honest: I’ve never heard of a lot of them. That said, there are lots of what look like really good books in the pages of this book, and that alone is worth the price of admission. I’m up for just about any book about books, and this is a good one.

It's interesting to see which books affected which people, as well as how they were affected. Several of the interviewees had what they called "life changing experiences" from a book that they read.
