I have a several different editions of this series of The Easy XXX Fake Book. All are quite similar in their features ... This one has a great cross-section of popular/rock songs from the 1980s. The format features slightly simplified arrangements all revised to the key of "C"... The arrangements, being simplified correspond to the "easy" level of piano music. The positive is that this format extends the number of musicians (and student-musicians) that might be able to take on these tunes. I know from long experience that studying "the classics" may create a first rate musician --- eventually. But the "cost" of that education may be boredom and frustration -- along with not being able to play familiar songs. The primary disadvantage of all songs being written in C is that it puts some music at too high or too low a register to properly associate itself with the source music. My suggestion is that some judgment be made to select the Keys of G and/or F as alternatives to C for songs that get too far away from the original.All fake books are composed in "lead sheet" format -- that is, only the treble clef is provided, with base chord notation appearing as text above the clef. A moderately experienced musician can usually come up with a supporting base mode to make this work. With some of the more sophisticated keyboards, backing tracks/styles are available that support the songs. Indeed, with a "good" backing track, and a well crafted lead sheet, an individual musician might sound like full musical trio...Another positive, as compared to traditional "fake books" is that the music is of a reasonable size for reading (especially with my poor eyesight). Typical Fake books were manufactured by stripping the "voice" notation from a song, and then pasting it together to make up the song book. The downside of that system is (1) the notation was often reduced in size to fit more material into the book, and (2) that ignores some of the "instrumental" segments in the "accompaniment" notation. (A weakness in this series, as well.)4 instead of 5 stars, mostly for the specific selection -- there are songs that didn't get in and a few that probably should have been left out. I understand that getting "rights" to publish some songs can be difficult and may play a role in the selection process.
Great book. Had many of my favorite songs from that era in easy to play formats. Great book to practice with.

I love this book! I am familiar with most of the songs, and it is a pleasure to be able to see all the words. I would recommend this book to anyone who knows the guitar chords and would enjoy 80s music.

I'd recommend this book for any beginner student of the keyboard who is a fan of 80s music. Nice mix of songs, and a great deal for the low price.
