About the Author

Robert B. Reese received the B.S. degree from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, in 1979 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Texas A&M University, College Station, in 1982 and 1985, respectively, all in electrical engineering. He served as a Member of the Technical Staff of the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC), Austin, TX, from 1985 to 1988. Since 1988, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University, Mississippi State, where he is an Associate Professor. Courses that he teaches include Microprocessors, VLSI systems, Digital System design, and senior design. His research interests include self-timed digital systems and computer architecture.

too much information but an encyclopedic explanation! The code to much code in C macros for really usefull learning code.

I don't have a problem with the contents of this book. It's quite good. I do have a problem with Cengage / Nelson who put out books that fall apart despite gentle use in gentle climates. This book is in pieces, the binding failed and the publisher won't do an exchange.

This book is better than I had hoped. The reading goes very fast and all examples seem very clear. The authors have a great way of making the Assembly more understandable...they first write a small snippet of code in C then re-create it line for line in Assembly. They then follow this up with a line-for-line explanation of what they have done and why. It is a fantastic book.

ITS FOR MICROCHIP PIC24 AND EXAMPLES

Good book used it in college. Recommended and used by professor at local university for assembly class. This book was helpful and well written.

This book is improperly titled. It should be entitled "Using the PIC24 Family with a C compiler," with the subtitle "...and learning to read the assembly output." This book does NOT teach assembly programing--it teaches reading assembly code generated by a C compiler. There is a big difference. While perhaps acceptable for a theory class, or to learn to read your C output, I cannot recommend it for anyone needing to learn to write assembly for these mcu's.I have been coding for over 20 years, with every level of compiler for computers (from hex machine code to high level basic). I must say this is the only computer book I've _ever_ considered returning! (And I own dozens!) I've coded 8-bit PICs with mpasm, c and basic, and seeing the difference of the PIC24 asm, I figured I'd get a book. This was the wrong choice--it's all theory, with no practice.Here are examples of why it is not an assembly book. First, the word "Variable" is not even in the index. (But somehow other mcu mfr names are.) None of the assembler directives are in the index, either (nor the word "directive", for that matter). Ok, I can deal with a shoddy index (despite being a healthy 18 pages)--let's look for the information that is critical to creating an asm file. It's not there! The first asm instruction covered is mov, starting on pg 62. The second section of mov, on files (ram data) on pg 65, does not even have a working example--it only uses the italicized 'f'. The first real life usable example is on page 83, where you can read the C output how their compiler declared the variable. But there are no methods for declaring variables in assembly, other than the comments on this one. They do say you can use that method for word alignment, but fail to mention the ".Align 2" directive that does it automatically.Secondly, I was also interested in Macros in Pic24 assembly. This book does not mention them. (They are covered only for C.) No assembly book is complete without covering the basics of macros. This is not an assembly book.Bottom line: Acceptable text book for use with a curriculum? Maybe. Book to learn PIC24 asm? No. I learned more from m'chips Help file.

You better put your seat belt on and be very proficient in C. The author, or whomever writes the code for the projects I was really interested in, is obviously well versed in the esoteric elements of C programming. I haven't seen a lot of comments on the code lines and can spend weeks if not months just trying to figure out what a program does or how it works. After years of tinkering with PIC and writing C code, I'm amazed at how often, metaphorically speaking, the author(s) reach for a discombobulating fradistat when a flat screwdriver would do, as far as code is concerned. As I unravel these mysterious chunks of code, I'm almost amused that the lines I don't understand were more often than not, put in there to make the code more readable. The first C project was fine and easy on the brain and then it's like a chunk of intervening chapters went missing and I was thrown in the deep end.Good luck with this. I'll keep it as a last resort reference.

Well it a good book! Good variety of recipes. The only complaint I have is how they make it seem that the cooking is faster than what it is (like all instant pot recipes). While yes, you can set the timer for a 10 minute cook and quick release...it will take the pot 5-10 minutes to warm up and 2-5 minutes for quick release. I have made 3 of the recipes and they were easy to follow and turned out well. it's a great, detailed manual that walks a novice through every function of an Instant. The other reviews here give a good sense of what this book is about...........so I'll just say that here's the deal: if you want the contents of the Marvel / Curtis 'Savage Sword of Conan' (SSOC; 235 issues, August 1974 - July 1995) black-and-white comic magazine, as well as the first five issues of the black-and-white comic magazine 'Savage Tales' (May 1971 - July 1974) that featured Conan and other REH characters, you can:-try and buy more-or-less intact copies of the original magazines from dealers, often for very steep prices;-purchase the 22 trade paperback compilations of SSOC issued by Dark Horse from 2008 - 2016;-or purchase this new 'Omnibus' collection from Marvel, which apparently is going to compile all 235 issues of SSOC, and the first five issues of 'Savage Tales'.The photo attached should give you an idea of how Volume 1 looks size-wise compared to the original magazine, and a representative volume of the Dark Horse compilation.At 1072 pages, Vol. 1 includes the contents of the first five issues of 'Savage Tales', as well as SSOC 1 - 12 and the cover art from a Summer of 1975 reprint package, titled a 'Super Special'.Along with the comics, you get the cover in full color; the letters pages; the advertisements; and the photoessays that were used to pad out each issue.There's no denying that these early issues were the best in the series. I thought I would add a few pictures to give you an idea how wonderful this book is! A monstrosity of a coffee table edition! I’m soooo in love with this book, I almost cried when it arrived! All Conan fans should love this beast!!Mel 🖤🐶🐺🐾

On the heels of January’s release of the first omnibus of Marvel’s original color Conan comic comes this fantastic collection of their early 70’s B&W Conan mags. That material was more graphic and adult oriented than the regular comic and wasn't bound by the Comics Code Authority. It was also really high-quality work featuring absolutely gorgeous art.I was first exposed to this material in the mid-70’s after discovering my dad’s stash of fantasy comics and mags. I was 7 at the time and Conan didn’t really appeal to me as much as some of the other stuff in the pile, but I always revered him as the King of fantasy characters…probably because my dad told me he was. I read the color comics but the B&W mags seemed too mature and lacked the stimulating color to keep young me interested. (Although I did scan through them to find the intriguing frames of scantily clad damsels and occasional glimpses of nudity.) In later years I would become a fan of REH, but I never returned to these old mags. Seeing them again now is a real treat. Of course, I prefer REH’s writing, but the lavish artwork in these books is fantastic and does the source material justice. I can see why my dad was drawn to them.The binding and paperstock are the same high-quality as other Marvel omnibuses. The book is mostly B&W, but the great cover art these mags featured is reproduced in full color glory. In a nice touch, the pages are slightly larger than the original mag, so there’s about a half-inch watermark at the top and bottom of every page to fill it out. The editors use this space to display the issue number and publication date at the top of every page. I love this. It’s really nice as you read through these to see at a glance when they were on the newsstand.While the reproductions are great, the bonus content is a disappointment compared to the color omnibus. Here we get another great intro by Roy Thomas, but the color omnibus had over 130 pages of unused art and behind the scenes material. This book only has 40. Disappointing. Still, this is a fine collection that will appeal to Conan fans and anyone serious about this era in fantasy publishing.Highly recommended.Btw: Like all Marvel Omnibuses this one is published in two cover versions. The standard version is the one for sale here on Amazon and features original art by Gabriele Dell’Otto. The direct-market version reproduces the cover of the first issue of the Savage Sword mag instead. I’ve always loved that cover so bought the DM variant elsewhere since Amazon doesn’t offer it. Other than the covers the versions are identical.
