I was very disappointed in this "study guide" (especially since the textbook which it accompanies is great). Certainly there are NCLEX-style questions and the answers are in the back. However, with no rationales to accompany the answers, its utility is dubious. I stress to my students that when they are studying they need to examine the rationales for WHY an answer is correct or incorrect (this helps me, as the instructor, as well). The other issue I have with this text is that the content is narrow. For example, in the kidney chapter, there are pages of questions about polycystic kidney disease at the expense of other kidney pathology and nursing care. Broader content needs to be covered.
I love the interactive features that go along with the scratch-off code. The extra features will help solidify your learning and will help you to think critically as a future RN. This is *not an entry-level textbook for nurses. Even with three semesters left towards my BSN, I’ve had to review some of the concepts that are included in these chapters. Very in-depth with their chapter information. Very advanced learning, I feel, especially with the electrolytes and acid-base balance chapters. I will be keeping this book for future reference and in writing nursing papers. It’s a challenge to read at times, but what comes easy in the nursing field?!
I like having the study guide to use with the Medical Surgical book, but I many answers in the back of the book are NOT correct. I would assume that this being a Nursing teaching book and the amount of money these books costs, that the Author and Publisher would make sure the answers as well as the content were correct before printing, distributing and charging nursing students for their book. For this reason specifically, I give it only 3 stars. PLEASE make sure your answers are correct before publishing the books. After all, this is a tool used to teach future nurses how to save a patients life.
Good questions. No Rationales, if that is something you are looking for, and can be frustrating if you don't understand why something is answered that way. The questions go along with the reading in the book, and also multiple ones have appeared on our exams. Some chapters have over 100, I believe. Used it for the first time this past unit, I feel that it helped me to understand stuff, like: if this is happening, you need to do this: a, b, or c.
I have found other study books to be more helpful. The answer key is in the back of the book, and it only gives the answers as a, b, c, d, e. It does not give rationales as to why the answers are correct or incorrect. It does follow the chapters of the book, but again, the rationales are not there and the questions are not always worded clearly. I would not recommend buying this study guide.
Their are no rationales for the answers, which is what always seems to help me comprehend the big picture-especially since it was over $50.
Great study tool. Has helped me through my Professional Nursing II and will be helpful in my last quarter for Professional Nursing III.
Good book for studying. In nursing school you need to practice questions (A LOT) to pass the NCLEX or just the nursing courses.
