Hypnopoetic is a book of poems simply about poems. I have never done a review for a poem before. Although I have another one set soon. I was asked to review this and since it looked so interesting, I thought I would give it a go. The author, Kyle Faber , does a wonderful job with these poems. Now given the cover, I was expecting something a bit erotic. But the poems aren't really that way. They are more about intimacy which I liked, but they are still quite sexy. I definitely understand the hypnotic factor. These poems were just beautiful. They weren't cheesy or corny. I can't really test it, but being a woman, if a read these to me, I would be putty in his hands.I love how the poems are intimate and deal with real connections and love. The poems flowed beautifully and were quite emotional. I am not the most girly chick out there, but I think it would be very hard for even the toughest chick to pass this up. I will be keeping this book around for the future. I do recommend checking this out. So guys, if you screwed up on Valentine's Day, I think she will forgive you if you use some of these poems. They are magic.

So glad I got this book. Large variety of dolls, using many varied techniques. Big dolls, small dolls, dolls with lots of detail, as well as the more simple dolls. All dolls have patterns for at least one outfit, and some have more. One of the dolls even has instruction for making a very detailed cardboard and fabric wardrobe to store her clothes in! Instructions for all dolls are very clear and detailed, with many illustrations. Beginning of book is a whole tutorial on all aspects and intructions that apply to any doll. I've been making dolls for years, and still learned new things! Very happy to have this book in my collection!

This is a wonderful book! Miriam Gourley is a good doll author. The very first doll book I ever used to make dolls was by Miriam Gourley. So when I saw this book for sale, I knew it was a very good buy. There is a wonderful variety of dolls. She is so creative.

I came upon this book by accident, in a stack of books contributed to our neighborhood center for its yard sale. I took it home, studied it and decided to buy my own copy so that the center could still make some money on it (they'd have given it to me for nothing because my husband and I tutor GED students there). The dolls are attractive and the instructions are good. The book makes a fine addition to my soft-sculpture library.

Look at the color pic on the cover of Miriam Gourley's book for an idea of just how varied and fun her dollmaking ideas and patterns are. Lots of great patterns (10 I think?) She shares techniques and tips, many secrets of successful dollmaking.

A wonderful collection of many types of cloth dolls. The patterns are easy to copy and the clothing is included.

After reading this book, I have a thorough understanding of XSLT 2.0. I was really surprised that it covered the Sarissa API, which I use extensively and is also used by other APIs such as MapBuilder.Though it says 2.0, 1.0 is covered in the book too, although not specifically. The code in the first 200 pages (and probably more) works with 1.0 as long as you change the namespace references and fix your own typos.The thing about the community is that most of the XSLT in use is in browsers and is still version 1.0, so 2.0 info isn't useful - yet, though it is covered well in this book.This book got me up and running with detail in a few days. The explanations and the chapters flow nicely. I liked that it didn't read like a PhD dissertation. Good job Jeni.Sam

I've been trying to learn XSLT literally for years, and I always seemed to get hung up on the notion of exactly what constitutes a "template" in XSLT-speak, and (to a lesser extent) some of the ins and outs of XPath. The bottom line is that, for some reason -- I don't know why, and I don't care -- everything snapped into focus with Jeni Tennison's book, and I was able to start coding some practical tools that we're using at the office now. The book is billed as an XSLT 2 intro, and it does have a lot of good stuff on XSLT 2, but I found it a very good reference as well for someone just trying to learn XSLT and basic XPath generally. You should only come to the book if you're already reasonably comfortable with markup languages and creating well-formed XML, but of course you probably wouldn't be reading this if you weren't . . .

I highly recommended the edition of this book that caters for XSLT 1.0 and thats where the problem of this book lies. The author uses the same base material and examples but doesn't highlight the differences for XSLT 2.0. To those who say didn't I see the word Beginning in the title, yes, Beginning XSLT 2.0 there are vast changes between the versions and the Beginner tag can still be applicable to experienced XSLT 1.0 developers migrating to XSLT 2.0. Those who try to do so are ill served by this book. Buy Sal Mangano's XSLT Cookbook 2nd edition instead.

Good book for advanced programmers; could use additional examples of how to use the XSLT tags and functions; would make this an excellent book

Good reference - clear, lots of examples, good index

This book is pretty good about explaining XSL. My one complaint is that the author focuses a little too much on a British soap opera in her examples. Sure it works as an example, but when your demographic is mostly male and American why would you choose a television show directed towards British females? (Of course I know why, but it simply doesn't make sense thinking of marketing.)

This book does not start with actually teaching XSLT. Chpt1 is called Beyond HTML (no XSLT) Chpt2 is about XML, Chpt3 is creating HTML from XML (see what I am getting at, SHOW ME THE XSLT!). After getting this book I actually immediately ordered Sams Teach Yourself XSLT in 21 Days because I know from experience these books get you right into the subject matter and get you going. However this book will be valuable due to it's broad and detailed scope if you have 6 months time to eventually digest it all. At times it is overly wordy on insignificant matter and instead of building on simple examples as you progress the author uses a complete TV guide right off the start which I find to be quite complex to start teaching people!

I suggest this book to all intermediate developers.The organization of the book focus topics from basic xml to dynamic application using xslt.Each topic is followed by another in a natural way, making you learning step by step.Personally i like how the book is organized: a feature is followed by a small example just to give you an idea of how it works, some notes about the caveats and a summary to read while revisiting the book later.This is how books should be organized not as a mere cut & paste from online ref doc as some books did.Highly recommended if you want to learn xslt and xpath quickly but in an effective way.

About the Author

Robert B. Reese received the B.S. degree from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, in 1979 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Texas A&M University, College Station, in 1982 and 1985, respectively, all in electrical engineering. too much information but an encyclopedic explanation! The code to much code in C macros for really usefull learning code.

I don't have a problem with the contents of this book. It's quite good. I do have a problem with Cengage / Nelson who put out books that fall apart despite gentle use in gentle climates. This book is in pieces, the binding failed and the publisher won't do an exchange.

This book is better than I had hoped. The reading goes very fast and all examples seem very clear. The authors have a great way of making the Assembly more understandable...they first write a small snippet of code in C then re-create it line for line in Assembly. They then follow this up with a line-for-line explanation of what they have done and why. It is a fantastic book.

ITS FOR MICROCHIP PIC24 AND EXAMPLES

Good book used it in college. Recommended and used by professor at local university for assembly class. This book was helpful and well written.

This book is improperly titled. It should be entitled "Using the PIC24 Family with a C compiler," with the subtitle "...and learning to read the assembly output." This book does NOT teach assembly programing--it teaches reading assembly code generated by a C compiler. There is a big difference. While perhaps acceptable for a theory class, or to learn to read your C output, I cannot recommend it for anyone needing to learn to write assembly for these mcu's.I have been coding for over 20 years, with every level of compiler for computers (from hex machine code to high level basic). I must say this is the only computer book I've _ever_ considered returning! (And I own dozens!) I've coded 8-bit PICs with mpasm, c and basic, and seeing the difference of the PIC24 asm, I figured I'd get a book. This was the wrong choice--it's all theory, with no practice.Here are examples of why it is not an assembly book. First, the word "Variable" is not even in the index. (But somehow other mcu mfr names are.) None of the assembler directives are in the index, either (nor the word "directive", for that matter). Ok, I can deal with a shoddy index (despite being a healthy 18 pages)--let's look for the information that is critical to creating an asm file. It's not there! The first asm instruction covered is mov, starting on pg 62. The second section of mov, on files (ram data) on pg 65, does not even have a working example--it only uses the italicized 'f'. The first real life usable example is on page 83, where you can read the C output how their compiler declared the variable. But there are no methods for declaring variables in assembly, other than the comments on this one. They do say you can use that method for word alignment, but fail to mention the ".Align 2" directive that does it automatically.Secondly, I was also interested in Macros in Pic24 assembly. This book does not mention them. (They are covered only for C.) No assembly book is complete without covering the basics of macros. This is not an assembly book.Bottom line: Acceptable text book for use with a curriculum? Maybe. Book to learn PIC24 asm? No. I learned more from m'chips Help file.

You better put your seat belt on and be very proficient in C. The author, or whomever writes the code for the projects I was really interested in, is obviously well versed in the esoteric elements of C programming. I haven't seen a lot of comments on the code lines and can spend weeks if not months just trying to figure out what a program does or how it works. After years of tinkering with PIC and writing C code, I'm amazed at how often, metaphorically speaking, the author(s) reach for a discombobulating fradistat when a flat screwdriver would do, as far as code is concerned. As I unravel these mysterious chunks of code, I'm almost amused that the lines I don't understand were more often than not, put in there to make the code more readable. The first C project was fine and easy on the brain and then it's like a chunk of intervening chapters went missing and I was thrown in the deep end.Good luck with this. I'll keep it as a last resort reference.

Well it a good book! Good variety of recipes. The only complaint I have is how they make it seem that the cooking is faster than what it is (like all instant pot recipes). While yes, you can set the timer for a 10 minute cook and quick release...it will take the pot 5-10 minutes to warm up and 2-5 minutes for quick release. I have made 3 of the recipes and they were easy to follow and turned out well. it's a great, detailed manual that walks a novice through every function of an Instant. I am looking forward to making more also. Lovely ! Great for me! Amazing
